The name Carrera (Spanish for 'race') ultimately commemorates the success of Porsche at the Carrera Panamericana  the famous border-to-border Mexican endurance race where Porsche achieved such great success with the 550 Spyder in the 1950s.

Almost all Galgos are friendly towards other dogs and small dogs. Galgos are good with children; they possess a calm temperament so there is less risk of a child being knocked over or jumped on than with a more excitable breed.
